"Eat my flesh (肉) and you will live forever." — When you first read this, were you confused (困惑的)?
Does it sound like a line from a horror movie, or maybe a strange cult (邪教)?
Don't close the page yet. Two thousand years ago, the first people who heard these words felt exactly (完全地) the same way — and yet these words changed the whole world.

😱 Wait… Is This a Zombie (喪屍) Movie?!
👼
DerDer
Hello everyone! Peace be with you! I'm DerDer! Today, April 23rd, our Gospel comes from John Chapter 6 — one of the most important (重要的) chapters in the whole Bible. People call it the "Bread of Life" speech (演講). Jesus said something that shocked (震驚) everyone who heard it!
😈
BadDer
Hey, hold on! I just quickly looked at today's reading — "eat my flesh (肉)" and "live forever (永遠)"?! What kind of story is this? A zombie film? A strange cult? I'm scared (嚇壞了)! Can I leave now?! 😰
👼
DerDer
BadDer! Stop it! 😠 But… honestly (說實話), your reaction (反應) is very normal. Two thousand years ago, the Jewish people who heard Jesus say this had the exact same reaction (反應) — many of them walked away! Let's look together at what Jesus really meant.

📖 Today's Gospel: John 6:44-51
44 No one can come to me unless (除非) the Father who sent me draws (吸引) them — and I will raise (使復活) them up on the last day.
45 It is written in the Prophets (先知書): "They will all be taught (受教導) by God." Everyone who has heard the Father and learned from him comes to me.
46 No one has seen the Father except (除了…之外) the one who is from God; only he has seen the Father.
47 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes (相信) has eternal (永恆的) life.
48 I am the bread of life.
49 Your ancestors (祖先) ate the manna in the wilderness (曠野), yet they died.
50 But here is the bread that comes down from heaven (天堂), which anyone may eat and not die.
51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh (肉體), which I will give for the life of the world.
— John 6:44-51 (NIV, adapted for clarity)

🍞 Cool Facts: Free Bread, A Desert Snack, and a Big Surprise
😈
BadDer
OK so what's "manna (瑪納)"? And why did Jesus say "your ancestors (祖先) ate it but died"? Is he insulting (侮辱) their grandparents?!
👼
DerDer
Ha! Not at all! Let me explain (解釋) the background (背景) first. This conversation (對話) happened in a town called Capernaum (葛法翁), next to the Sea of Galilee (加里利海). The day before, Jesus had done a famous miracle (奇蹟) — feeding 5,000 people with only 5 loaves (條) of bread and 2 fish! The crowd (人群) loved it. Free food! So the next day, they came back looking for Jesus again.
😈
BadDer
Wow, so they were basically just following him for the free lunch (免費午餐)? Sounds like me at church events (活動) … 😂
👼
DerDer
Exactly! Jesus knew (知道) why they came. So he used this chance (機會) to point (指向) them to something much bigger than physical (物質的) food — he wanted them to think about food for the soul (靈魂)!

Old Testament Cool Fact · What Was Manna?
Exodus 16
During the 40-year journey (旅程) through the desert (沙漠), God sent a special food from the sky every morning — white and sweet, like honey crackers (蜂蜜薄餅). The Jewish people called it manna. It was a miracle (奇蹟) — and also a very important memory (回憶) for Jewish people. Jesus uses manna as a comparison (比較): manna was amazing, but people who ate it still died one day. What Jesus offers is something far greater — life that never ends (永不結束的生命).
👼
DerDer
So Jesus is saying: manna was great — it kept people alive in the desert. But it was only temporary (暫時的). Everyone who ate it still died someday. But the "bread" Jesus offers — himself — gives life that lasts forever (永遠持續). It's a totally different kind (種類) of food!
Manna fed bodies (肉體) for 40 years,
but everyone who ate it still died.
Jesus says: "I give you a bread that means you will never die."

✝️ So… "Eating Flesh" Is About the Eucharist (聖體聖事)?!
😈
BadDer
OK fine, I get (理解) the manna thing. But WHY does Jesus have to say "eat my flesh"? It still sounds so… weird (怪) and violent (暴力的)! Can't he use nicer words?!
👼
DerDer
Jesus chose (選擇) these strong, clear words on purpose (故意地)! He was pointing to two very important things at the same time. First — he would give his real body on the cross (十字架) as a sacrifice (犧牲) for all people. Second — he was preparing (預備) people to understand the Eucharist (聖體聖事), also called the Mass (彌撒). The Catholic Catechism (天主教教理), paragraph (段落) 1324, says: the Eucharist is "the source (泉源) and summit (高峰) of the whole Christian life."
🕯️
Church Teaching · CCC 1324
Catechism 天主教教理 · §1324
"The Eucharist is the source (泉源) and summit (高峰) of the Christian life." When Catholics receive (領受) Holy Communion (聖體) at Mass, they are not eating physical flesh. They are receiving Jesus — his life, love, and presence (臨在) — in a deep spiritual (靈性的) way. It is the greatest gift (禮物) God gives to humanity (人類).
👼
DerDer
Think of it this way — when we receive Holy Communion (領聖體) at Mass, we are not eating raw meat (生肉)! We are receiving the life of the Risen (復活的) Jesus. It is the most complete (完整的) act of love — God loves us so much that he wants to become our nourishment (養分), to be inside us, to be with us completely (完全地)!
😈
BadDer
OK… I think I get it now. It's like saying: "I love you so much, I want to give you everything — even myself." That's actually… kind of beautiful (美好的)? Don't tell anyone I said that.
👼
DerDer
Ha! Your secret (秘密) is safe with me! 😄 And yes — that's exactly it. It's the most beautiful love story in history (歷史).

🧲 "Drawn" by the Father — How Does Faith (信仰) Begin?
👼
DerDer
Look at verse (節) 44 again: "No one can come to me unless the Father draws (吸引) them." This is a very important idea. Faith doesn't start with you trying very hard. It starts with God inviting (邀請) you first. The original Greek (希臘文) word means "to pull (拉)" — like a magnet (磁鐵) pulling metal (金屬). When you feel a strange longing (渴望) for truth, love, or meaning (意義) — that pull is God calling (呼喚) you!
😈
BadDer
Wait… so if I'm reading this blog right now and feeling something strange inside… could that be God "drawing (吸引)" me?! That's kind of a scary (嚇人的) thought… 🤔
👼
DerDer
Maybe it is! 😊 It's not scary — it's actually wonderful (美好的). God doesn't force (強迫) anyone. He just… gently (輕柔地) draws you closer.

Bible Study Bonus · The "I AM" Sayings in John
John's Gospel · 7 "I AM" Statements
In John's Gospel, Jesus uses the phrase (片語) "I AM…" seven times. For example: "I am the bread of life," "I am the light of the world," "I am the Good Shepherd (善牧)," "I am the way, the truth, and the life." This phrase (片語) connects (連結) to the Old Testament, where God told Moses (梅瑟): "I AM WHO I AM" (出谷紀 3:14). John is saying: Jesus is not just a teacher (老師) — he is God himself, present (臨在) with us.

📱 What Are You Feeding Your Soul Every Day?
😈
BadDer
OK, this is actually kind of deep (深刻的). But honestly — modern (現代的) people spend all day on Instagram (IG), TikTok, chasing (追求) likes (按讚數) and followers (粉絲)… Isn't that the same thing? Like we're feeding our souls with… internet snacks (網路零食)?
👼
DerDer
BadDer, that's surprisingly (令人驚訝地) thoughtful (有深度的)! Yes — that's exactly the question (問題) Jesus is asking us today. All those things — money, achievement (成就), people's approval (認同), entertainment (娛樂) — they are our modern "manna." They fill us for a moment (片刻), but then we feel empty (空虛的) again. Only Jesus — the true Bread of Life — can fill the deepest (最深的) part of our heart.
You try many things to feel full (感到滿足).
Money, likes, success (成功), fun.
But they always leave you hungry again.
Jesus says: "I am different. Eat and never be hungry."
01
🔍 Check Your "Soul Menu" (靈魂菜單)
Take 5 quiet (安靜的) minutes today. Ask yourself: "What am I chasing (追求) the most right now?" Money? Likes? Attention (關注)? Does it really make you feel full and satisfied (滿足的)? Or hungry again?
02
🙏 Say One Honest (誠實的) Prayer
Try saying this in your heart: "Jesus, I know those things don't truly satisfy (真正滿足) me. Please feed me with your love. Fill the empty (空虛的) places inside me." You don't need perfect (完美的) words. God hears (聽見) your heart.
03
⛪ Go to Mass This Weekend (週末)
If you can, give yourself the chance (機會) to go to Mass this weekend. Experience (體驗) the Bread of Life for yourself. Not because you have to — but because it's a real meeting (相遇) with the one who loves you most.
😈
BadDer
OK, I'll be honest (誠實的) — today was way more interesting (有趣的) than I expected (預期的). That "being drawn (被吸引)" thing… I need to think about it. See you all next time!
👼
DerDer
Take your time! God is patient (有耐心的). God bless you all! See you next time! ✨
👼 One Last Word from DerDer —
"I am the bread of life." This is one of the most powerful (有力的) sentences (句子) anyone has ever said. Jesus doesn't say "I will give you bread." He says "I am the bread." He doesn't offer something — he offers himself.
Everything you are chasing today — can it truly fill your soul (靈魂)? If the answer is "not quite," maybe that emptiness (空虛感) is God gently drawing you closer.
You don't have to be "ready (準備好)" before you come to him. Even the crowd who came just for free food — Jesus didn't turn (趕走) them away. He gave them the greatest speech of his life. He is still inviting you today. All you need to do is show up (出現).
