🎄 Why are there 4 Masses?

Hello! The answer is simple: Christmas is too big for just one celebration!
Jesus coming to Earth is like a beautiful diamond. We need to look at it from different sides to see all the light. So, the Church gives us four different "moods" or "times" to celebrate.
😈 BadDer:
The real answer? The priests have too much energy.
Basically, it is like a movie with four parts. You don't have to watch all of them (thank goodness), but DerDer wants you to know the whole story.
1. The Vigil Mass (Christmas Eve)
⏰ Time: December 24th, around sunset.
😇 DerDer says:
This is the beginning! The feeling is warm and like a family.
We read the Family Tree of Jesus. We hear a long list of names: Abraham, David, and many others. It shows us that Jesus is a real human with a real family, just like you and me!
😈 BadDer says:
This is the "Name List" Mass.
The Gospel is very long. It says "A became the father of B, B became the father of C..." for five minutes. It is a good time to take a small nap. 😴
2. The Midnight Mass
⏰ Time: December 24th, late at night (often 12:00 AM).
😇 DerDer says:
This is the most magical time! Light comes into the darkness.
The church is dark, and then the lights turn on. We read about the Angels singing and the baby in the manger. It feels very holy and special.
😈 BadDer says:
This is the "Zombie" Mass.
Everyone is tired. The church is super crowded. You have to fight for a seat. I only go because the music is loud and keeps me awake.
3. The Dawn Mass
⏰ Time: December 25th, early morning (sunrise).

This is the quiet time. The sun is coming up.
The story is about the Shepherds. They ran quickly to see Jesus. It is a peaceful time to pray and think about the new day.

This is the "Why am I awake?" Mass.
Only the priest and the birds are awake. If you go to this one, you are very brave. I am usually still sleeping and dreaming about presents.
4. The Day Mass
⏰ Time: December 25th, late morning or noon.

This is the big finale!
We don't talk about the baby or the sheep here. We talk about God's Power.
We read that Jesus is the "Word" (Logos). He created the universe. It is deep and serious.

This is the "Philosophy" Mass.
The reading is hard to understand. It talks about "The Word was God..." My brain hurts.
Honestly, at this mass, I am just thinking about lunch. Is the turkey ready yet? 🍗
